January 2026 Freeze Warning

Freeze warning graphicIt’s been a warm and dry winter so far, but colder weather and a freeze warning are on the horizon for the upcoming weekend. While forecasts may change, there’s a chance of rain on Friday, January 23, 2026. To prepare, it’s a good idea to water your turf, plants, and pots NOW. This will help them stay hydrated and better withstand the cold.

Now is also the perfect time to take steps to protect your plants from potential frost damage. A little preparation now can go a long way in keeping your garden healthy through the chill!

Here’s how to prepare before the freeze hits:

  • Water your plants, pots, and turf by Friday morning before temperatures begin to drop. Soak them well.
  • Cover vulnerable plants, such as those in pots, seasonal flowers, perennials, and succulents like Agave and palm trees.
  • Use frost cloth, burlap, or other breathable materials like bed sheets, light blankets, or towels. Do not use plastic, as it can trap moisture and do more harm than good.

Once temperatures warm up after the freeze warning, remember to remove the coverings to allow your plants to breathe. Protecting your garden now will help ensure it thrives when the weather improves.
